Much to all of our shock and dismay, our Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz supported the Detention Center in our Town, near our homes, schools and our children. She even put in a "cursory letter of support" for it. However, this would seem to not be the case since there is a clear history of her supporting this detention center and the private prison system in general. Let us describe her history with the prison in our Town.
Pages
The Town of Southwest Ranches, Corrections Corporation of American (CCA), and DHS / ICE want to build one of the largest immigration detention centers in the nation within walking distance of thousands of homes; thus, reducing the quality of our life and our community. We do not agree with the federal government privatizing our immigration detention centers throughout the nation when there is clear evidence that privatizing our prisons creates a clear public safety threat. For ICE to continue to privatize these institutions and bring this safety threat through their "secure communities Initiative" to our community is unacceptable. Depriving someone of their liberty is a non-delegable governmental function and privatizing of such a function is infecting our nation like a virus.
The Town of Southwest Ranches has now entered into it's THIRD Fire Contract within the last year now with the Town of Davie, costing taxpayers $120,000 in ramp up fees. They are now closing several roads in western Southwest Ranches charging the tax payers $80,000 for the gates. They have paid an unknown amount of money for lobbying with ICE regarding this prison. They have several lawsuits against the Town, 1- Involving Open Meeting Violations on a November 5th meeting concerning the ICE Detention Center, 2- Open Records Violations, and 3- The Town is putting together a lawsuit to sue Pembroke Pines for breach of contract because the City utilized their exit clause and cancelled for convenience their Fire/EMS contract which included water and sewer at the last minute for the CCA prison. In the contract it states that there should be no third party beneficiaries. CCA would be a third party in this instance.
CCA has also filed suit in Federal court against the City of Pembroke Pines saying they are denying them water however the City had never seen a water application. The City did file for a Declaratory Judgement in State Court but that has been put on hold until the Federal Court hears the suit from CCA.
Is ANYONE CONFUSED as to why the Pembroke Pines/Southwest Ranches Fire Agreement was cancelled? The Town Attorney Keith Poliakoff attempted to "slip" into the agreement a portion that guaranteed water for the prison at CCA's request. This is something that should have been brought up separately. CCA should have brought it forward on their own in a water application. This is sleight of hand that CCA and the Town attempted to do because they were so afraid of CCA being on the Pembroke Pines agenda.
As of June 2012, ICE put out a statement that the site selection was no longer needed due to the fact that the extra bedspace was no longer needed. READ UPDATE HERE!

Fleece me, Please!
Ever since its founding in 2000, the Town of Southwest Ranches has been the source of free money for every sort of grifter that has ever passed through south Florida. Who can forget the Canadians who made it a Family Affair? Where else can you run the Town, have your wife oversee the finances and have your daughter control access to public records all for $750K per year?! Possibly only Bell California has a better life for the grifter on the taxpayer's dime. Who could forget the double teaming of the SWR taxpayer by the Wasserman Rubin pair through their "you write grant - I'll vote for it - you get the commission" scheme? Pure Southwest Ranches. Pure graft.
In a rare instance of fiscal prudence, the Council forced the new Town Administrator, Ken Fields, to resign for giving $40K in raises to support staff at the Town Hall after Ken bent the process to avoid an independent financial review of the proposed raises. Unfortunately, the Council's worrying about $40K is akin to concerning yourself with a hangnail *on* the severed arm... What kind of reckless spending has been going on to try and bring a mega prison run by the notorious CCA do you suppose has been going on? Where is the Council's fiscal prudence here? What about Mayor Nelson? He's signs every single check the Town writes... to Becker Poliakoff, for example. $40K is just the tip of the iceberg, Captain Smith.
Did you know that the Town pays for its very own lobbyist who just purely coincidentally happens to work for the condo attorney firm, Becker Poliakoff? And that the Town Attorney's name is Keith Poliakoff? And the first Town Attorney and a Town Founder was Gary Poliakoff? Hey, it's a Family Affair. Doesn't every 7500 person town dedicated to preserving their rural lifestyle have their condo attorney firm running it and supplying lobbyists? Legal documents recorded with the Clerk of the House show the Town spent approximately $20,000 for lobbying for the CCA prison in 2011.
The lobbying was conducted by the Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart's former Chief of Staff, Omar Franco, who now has a position with the firm Becker & Poliakoff. He worked very hard to get Congresswoman and Democratic National Committe Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz to endorse an enormous federally funded bit of corporate cronism in the form of a DHS/ICE prison. It is well known that CCA and other private prison firms spend MILLIONS of dollars a year in lobbyinggrifters politicians for the chance to get these lucrative contracts with the federal government. If CCA is willing to spend the lobbying coin, WHY did the Town's taxpayers have to pay a DIME on lobbying for this prison? There is something you might want to ask your representative on the Town Council and see what they have to say about it.
Spending on lobbying is something we're pretty sure they didn't agree to when the council approved the 2005 agreement with CCA and subsequent delegation requests to increase the bed space... Maybe Prison Inc's lobbying money was well spent ON OUR Town Council, perhaps? Or maybe the de facto Town Manager's law firm stood to profit handsomely over the contracting and litigation related to the proposed prison. Maybe? We are told to always follow the money. Much of the money leads to Becker & Poliakoff. Just file a public records request for their invoices to the Town.
By the way, this increase in bed space was touted in emails as giving a greater per diem to the Town by CCA Attorney Sam Poole showing all their loyalties lie with greater profits instead of with the people the Council was elected to serve. But, selling out to predatory corporations is really nothing new for Sam Poole and his law firm, Berger Singerman.
An increase in bed space does offer a greater per diem to the Town, but who would benefit mostly from this increase in bed space? 96 to 98% would go to CCA. Some great deal, hmmm? What about our hemorrhaging federal budget? It's ALL ultimately funded with your federal tax dollars. The Feds are bleeding money faster than they can print or borrow it. What does this show for our economic recovery? Surely investing more federal tax dollars into the private prison complex is not going to have some magical effect on paying down the deficit nor will the few hundred dollars offer much of a relief in unemployment rates... Prisons are overhead and not a productive use of capital.
The money trail for the CCA prison lobbying doesn't stop there. The Town attorney, Keith Poliakoff has racked up an enormous register of legal fees because of this prison. Who is paying this bill? The Town Taxpayers! Last year, the Mayor approved over $900,000 dollars in attorney expenses!! Bills, that we are still sifting through. Below is a comparison of the two municipalities involved with this prison, Pembroke Pines and SWR, based on their budgeted numbers. It is further broken down as a "cost per person" which is commonly used in comparing legal fees amongst municipalities.
Population Budgeted Atty's Fees Cost per Person
SWR 7,500 $335K $47.00
PP 154,000 $855K $5.55
** Population was taken from US Census numbers for 2010, Atty Fees were taken from 2011 Budget for both municipalities.
Election day is coming... You have a voice in your vote. Let it be heard! The time for a change in leadership is now!
Don't just change the leadership in your own municipality but at all levels that were involved in this prison scheme that didn't benefit taxpayers nor the residents living in Southwest Ranches or Pembroke Pines.
The players consist of Senator Bill Nelson (D), Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D), Allen West (R), Marco Rubio (R) (Former B&P Atty with connections to the Blackwater prison scandal) all knew about these plans and all of them ignored their constituents.
Another thing that bothers us is that if the letter of support for the Town's proposal was just a "cursory letter of support" (as Debbie Wasserman Schultz put it in a previous Jimmy Cefalo interview) and if Senator Bill Nelson is a Senator for the entire STATE of Florida, then why wouldn't he have noticed that one of the three sites that had submitted for the project was shutting a prison down and should have rightly gotten this project to fill this gap in their budget. If we must fund a federal detention center, which it is believed that we don't really need one, then why not put it where people would be losing their jobs? I guess that would make too much sense for the feds to understand. Or maybe it adheres to the most basic calculus of all... Follow the money.
In the end, it's just gut churning. Throw all the bums out from the Nelsons to Wasserman Schultz to Keith Poliakoff. Kick them all to the curb as Heidi would say.

What's In a Name?
Control the language, control the thought. Control the thought, control the people.
In 1948 when George Orwell penned Ninteen Eighty-Four (notice the relationship between the date written and the title, in case you ever wondered where it came from?), he introduced constructs known as Newspeak and Doublspeak. (It's a classic read and a quick read. We urge anybody who hasn't read it to do so. Even if you have, it will only take an hour or two to reread it. It provides great context for the battle we have undertaken against the placement of this prison among our homes.)
Newspeak and Doublespeak were mechanisms of propaganda which allowed the state to control the language; hence, control the thought. Of course, thought control is people control.
We are presented with the federal government and their hand picked corporate toadies at Prison, Inc., along with their hapless minions in our federal and local governments trying to control the language.
At the last Southwest Ranches Town Council meeting, one of the proponents of the prison took the lectern to chide us all that this prison is not really a prison but is a detention center.
Let's look at terms used to describe this monstrosity that Janet Napolitano and Barack Obama in the executive branch, working with their accomplices in the legislative branch, Debbie Wasserman Schultz and Bill Nelson, want to jam down our throats and defile our community with.
Also, this place will be used to hold immigrants for up to two months or longer.
We believe that this is a prison. Further, we believe it is a prison for immigrants. Now you can see where we get the phrase we are using, "immigrant prison", comes from.
If you still disagree, please read the detailed wikipedia entry on what a prison is.
Do the terms "detention center" or "processing center" connote anything remotely resembling the reality of what we described here as the plans for this prison? Or, are these phrases an attempt to minimize what these things really are and to soften the imagery in your mind? Are these phrases a purposeful manipulation of the English language for the sole purpose of reducing resistance to the siting of this prison and to get the general population accepting of these as features in ALL of our back yards? They have these planned Aldento to Aurora, Crete to Essex County NJ, Henderson to Karnes County TX, Ocilla to Orange County CA, and Southwest Ranches to Waco. From sea to shining sea.
It seems to have worked with at least one SWR resident who spoke at the meeting on Thursday.
We'll now introduce another euphemism. That euphemism is concentration camp. We all know what a concentration camp is now because we have rightfully associated that phrase with death camps. But, thinking about the words, concentration camp, they seem benign. What is a concentration camp? Is it a concentrated camp where you and your family might spend some quality time together in the Everglades? Absolutely not.
Family residential centers, residential centers, detention centers, or processing centers DO NOT look like prisons just like a concentration camp does not look like a Yogi Bear target for food in Jellystone Park.
If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, looks like a duck, it must be a duck. This so-called processing center is a prison. It's a prison for immigrants, as best we know.
Don't be fooled by the government and corporate propagandists.

- The anti prison residents are calling this an immigrant prison.
- The pro prison faction are calling it a detention center.
- The Town of Southwest Ranches and ICE are calling it a processing center.
- CCA calls a similar facility in Taylor, TX called the T. Don. Hutto (named after CCA co founder Hutto) residential center.
- They formerly called it a family residential center.

The CCA Advisory Meeting -- A Place of Surrender
Pembroke Pines Commissioner Carl Shechter warned us about inconsistent messages when they debated the resolution to inform the President that we did not want this detention center. He said that the inclusion of the 10 demands to ICE "should" they insist on building the prison anyway, sent an inconsistent message and telegraphed defeat.
All those involved, from the 4 commissioners and Mayor to every single public speaker were very clear in that we are not going to negotiate terms of surrender. The resolution included statements from 19 HOAs representing 90,000 (at a bare minimum) of the 150,000 residents of Pembroke Pines that they STAUNCHLY oppose the immigrant prison.
In order to complete the legitimacy of the process of jamming a prison down our throats, private prison company Corrections Corporation of America, LLC, has been conducting closed-to-the-public advisory group meetings which are by invitation only and spearheaded by Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz who is also the chair of the Democratic National Committee in an attempt to justify that the public was listened to and she was correct in endorsing the immigrant prison.
These meetings are being used to undermine your opposition to the prison by bringing legitimacy to the negotiations you are engaged in to give us the best prison we can get. You are writing our terms of surrender and we have made our voices clear. NO SURRENDER.
If you disagree with this assessment, please read the following letter from Director of Enforcement and Removal, Gary Mead as he responded to Mayor Frank Ortis' demand that Southwest Ranches be taken out of consideration. He's actually calling these sham advisory meetings "town council meetings."
This is a travesty of representative government. Again, the advisory meetings you are attending are by invitation only and they EXCLUDE those who refuse to negotiate for the "best prison we can get" including most members of the Residents Against the SW Ranches ICE Detention Center.
HOA presidents, your attendance lends credibility to their process. Your actions are undermining opposition to the prison. You need to immediately boycott these meetings especially if you signed on to this resolution in opposing the prison.
There are no negotiations. We will only discuss THEIR concession to leave our communities alone.

Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz on SWR ICE Detention Center W/ WIOD 610 Jimmy Cefalo
Good morning folks. This morning, FL20 (D) Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz and DNC Chairwoman finally went on record regarding her continued support for her immigrant prison in Southwest Ranches and her refusal to remove her endorsement. Just listen to the spin she puts on it.
Folks, notice she said an advisory committee has been formed so we can have input into OUR prison? Notice how she mentioned the November 5th ICE meeting? Notice how she didn't tell you that of the 333 cards submitted there were only 7 in support of the prison?
Regarding the advisory committee, how many of YOU are on it? We know that none of us are on it. Debbie Wasserman Schultz is up for reelection (along will ALL of the House) in November.

Oh, if you think there's any sincerity to her, please read our blog posting of how it appears she took $1000 from CCA for the endorsement she speaks of. $1000 Endorsement
Read an analysis of her interview with Jimmy Cefalo.

Innocent Victims: The Shameful Legacy Of Senator Nelson, Debbie Wasserman Schultz and Mayor Nelson?
I'm not one to engage in hyperbole to make a point. However, I think in this case I will demonstrate how I felt as I was reading through all the cards that you filled out at the CCA / ICE prison "informational" meeting that was held on November 5th in Pembroke Pines. We have just picked up copies of all 333 cards that you were required to fill out and state your position on the prison as a requirement to enter the public meeting. This was after you were questioned by our police apparatus if you were "here as protesters." This document trove came from a public records request made of the Town of Southwest Ranches.
As I was reading through the NEAR UNANIMOUS opposition to the prison, I crossed one card that first hit me in the gut and then brought a tear to my eye. At that point, I was harshly reminded of what we are fighting for. Here's the card that shook me. Tell me if it hits you the same way it hit me:
It shook me to realize just how perverted in thinking that Democratic National Committee Chairwoman and FL-20 Representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz, Senator Bill Nelson (D) and Southwest Ranches Mayor Jeff Nelson are in trying to CONVINCE us that we want a post American century corporate-police-state-type world. A world where they, as leaders, have created an environment so devoid of hope and so lacking the quintessential aspects of the American dream (for all, INCLUDING immigrant families) that all they offer us are 300 near minimum wage jobs as private corrections officers in our "upscale community."
If you oppose this prison and EVERYTHING wrong that it stands for, email us at notprisontown@gmail.com and ask what you can do to help YOUR community. WE live here and WE have a right to say that we don't want this facility irrespective of what our COMPROMISED politicians tell us. THEY work for US. Not the other way around.
Also note that Senator Bill Nelson, Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz and Mayor Jeff Nelson are ALL up for reelection in 2012. Don't forget that AFTER this meeting, Mayor Jeff Nelson went on the record saying that he believed the majority of SWR residents support this prison.
We will blog the very interesting statistics regarding those who attended the ICE meeting on November 5th and their position(s) on the prison within the next couple of days. Stay tuned.

Hypocrite Wasserman Schultz Bashes Opponents on Immigration AGAIN!
CNN Interview with Debbie Wasserman Schultz
Last week, Debbie Wasserman Schultz was on CNN bashing her political opponents for having harsh positions on immigration. It's almost beyond all belief that she bashes her opponents on one hand and then takes money from CCA with the other for endorsing the building of an immigrant prison IN HER DISTRICT which will be used to break up families, incarcerate CHILDREN, and make a healthy profit for Prison Inc.

It's almost beyond all belief that she bashes her opponents on one hand and then takes money from CCA with the other for endorsing the building of an immigrant prison IN HER DISTRICT which will be used to break up families, incarcerate CHILDREN, and make a healthy profit for Prison Inc.
Transcript:
SCHULTZ: Well, my thoughts are that Mitt Romney did his level best to continue to pull the field of Republican candidates as far to the right and the extreme right as possible, whether it was on immigration... where he said that, even families whose have been here for 25 years, as Newt Gingrich talked about, he would tear those apart. He would take people who essentially have broken no laws and been working and paying taxes -- you know, no path to a future here in America for those undocumented immigrants, and on every other issue. Is Debbie Wasserman Schultz schizophrenic? Honestly? Yes, Debbie, to paraphrase the sentiment of your quote in this interview, we think you've earned the attention of your district Fl-20 for jamming an immigrant prison down our throats while hypocritically trying to bash your opponents on immigration. You are worse than them all. None of them endorsed a deportation center like you and Senator Bill Nelson (D-FL) have.

Pay to Play the Human Way
Over the past few months, we've crossed paths with a number of people who have been highly sensitive to certain avenues that have unfolded before us as we've published facts related to this ICE / CCA immigrant prison in Southwest Ranches.
Of the earliest and most visceral responses that we've received are those that believe that Debbie Wasserman Schultz should be given a free pass over her endorsement of this project. The reason that Congresswoman Schultz and DNC chair is not given a free pass is because we believe that her letter of endorsement along with Senator Bill Nelson's letter of endorsement were major factors in ICE's decision to situate the prison in Southwest Ranches. We also believe that they are so powerful, they could kill the project in SWR in a heartbeat if they wanted to.
Further, if it were some sort of simple mistake based on receiving false information from backwater small town politicians as her staff including Jodi Davidson and Steve Paikowsky seemed to imply early on, then Debbie would have removed her endorsement. She hasn't. In fact, she's gotten more devious in how she is using the guise of "open" meetings with HOA presidents to try and deflate the opposition to this prison. She and her staff have been relentless in protecting the position that she took endorsing the prison.
Therefore, providing an understanding of why that is and also trying to wake up her constituencies that she's extremely hypocritical when she bashes republicans for wanting to "round them up and deport them all" when SHE is endorsing the VERY MEANS to do that with her immigrant prison in Southwest Ranches.
We have demonstrated that merely a few weeks after giving CCA her endorsement, she accepted money from CCA in such closely timed proximity that it had to be for providing her endorsement of the project in SWR.
As this unfolds, we find a set of industries which profit off our massive immigration problem and dysfunctional immigration system. The top line of it is the private corporations who are making billions of dollars incarcerating illegal aliens awaiting decisions on deportation or making a fortune using migrant labor that can be crushed and discarded like a used Styrofoam coffee cup when no longer needed. We find that one of South Florida's elite, Sam Poole III who was formerly a Broward County official has been one of the continuous threads of this story.
The other day, our investigations uncovered a link between the sugar barons who own Florida Crystals up near South Bay, abuse of immigrant labor AND Sam Poole III. Bitter Sugar and Immigrant Abuse Pointing this out caused outrage. However, those people who support DWS with their contributions must be understood because they are buying access which is being used against us. We are getting a prison in our back yards because of this corruption and the duplicity of the Congresswoman.
Reviewing the FEC campaign contribution database, we find these interesting donations made to Debbie Wasserman Schultz:
The Fanjul's (owners of Florida Crystals) donated a MINIMUM of $10,000 to DWS this cycle. It could be more because more donations could come in through other family names that we don't know, yet are still part of the Fanjul clan.
This is highly disturbing. We urge you to look at the link to the Broward New Times article on the Fanjul's to see just what type of people Debbie Wasserman Schultz is accepting donations from AND who have a relationship to Sam Poole III. New Times' Bitter Sugar Article
While we're at it, let's take a look at donations from Sam Poole III's employer, Berger Singerman, to Debbie Wasserman Schultz's campaign:
That's another $3250 from Berger Singerman.
While we're at it, let's put up donations from favorite law firm, Becker Poliakoff. Are they funding Debbie's campaign? You bet:
She's taking money from two of Sam Poole III's clients, Big Sugar and Prison, Inc., both of which profit off illegal immigration and have a history of abusing immigrants under their care. She's taking money from the law firm who's employee has represented both Florida Crystals AND CCA. Of course, she's taking money from the internal SWR Lobbyist, Keith Poliakoff's firm. All these threads are woven into a tapestry of big corporations buying access to politicians. These politicians benefit from the exploitation of immigrants yet hypocritically bash their opponents for "wanting to lock them up and deport them." The residents of west Broward are getting an unwanted immigrant prison in the deal.
The pursuit of truth is virtuous, so the investigation continues. We will continue to bring more clarity to the issue.

DEBBIE WASSERMAN SCHULTZ--$1000 PER WRITTEN ENDORSEMENT
Now it becomes clear as to why Debbie Wasserman Schultz is so adament in her support of CCA and their building of an immigrant prison in Southwest Ranches. On April 8, 2011, she and Senator Bill Nelson signed a letter of endorsement for this facility. Merely 3 weeks later, Debbie Wasserman Schultz collected her fee of $1000 from CCA. That's almost quicker than how long it takes for you to get money back from ebay for a successful sale! Who questions the efficiency of the private sector, anyway? They can buy politicians faster than you can say Frank Nurt!
Ironically, this comes just a few months after Debbie lambasted the Republicans and Jim Sensenbrenner for wanting to "lock them up and deport them all" when discussing immigration. Then, Debbie goes on to ENDORSE the biggest immigrant prison in the country and defends Prison Inc to the very end. This is in light of overwhelming opposition to the prison and a disgusting paper trail of public officials hiding and covering up the sordid mess. Also, this is in the face of overwhelming examples of grotesque civil rights abuses of prisoners in CCA's custody.
We guess Sensenbrenner and the Republicans could have had THEIR ideas endorsed by the Congresswoman and her staff if they just gave Debbie $1000 too.

Note who actually contributes to the PAC. Some of our favorite players like the former CCA Lobbyist and now hired mucky muck, Lucibeth Mayberry contribute. Also, notice that Debbie is in GREAT company as one of only 3 Democrats on the list. Most of them are just backwater political hacks. So, Debbie has really gotten fleas by getting into bed with this crew. It is who she is, though. Her actions belie her words. Here's a list of CCA's PAC contributions.
In conclusion, on April 8th, Debbie signs a letter of endorsement. On April 29th, CCA gives her $1K. Coincidence? You decide. Debbie STILL steadfastly refuses to withdraw her support and adamantly stands behind her endorsement. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

What Kind of Man is CCA's Sam Poole?
In a prior article, we linked to Berger Singerman's bio page on Sam Poole where he's presented as a concerned environmentalist. What he seems to be is a former Broward County bureaucrat who's now found a way to use his former public influence to represent some of the most despicable companies who profit off the hurt, destruction and exploitation of those around them. He's represented Corrections Corporation of America, LLC for years in their attempt to get a stronghold in Southwest Ranches AND take over the town government.
http://www.browardpalmbeach.com/2004-08-26/news/bitter-sugar/5/
Sam Poole has an even more twisted clientele than most. He seems to make his money off companies that PROFIT off the exploitation of poor immigrants. CCA is the largest private prison corporation in America and is estimated to provide nearly 20% of the beds for ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) countrywide. CCA and the Town of Southwest Ranches want to put the BIGGEST immigrant prison in the country right here in bucolic Southwest Ranches. This prison will be run with FEDERAL tax money and will enrich the corporation, their highly compensated white collar staff AND help feed the greedy, rich leaders in Southwest Ranches who think they are so poor they need revenue from a prison.
All this money will be made off a completely dysfunctional immigration system that is beyond harsh to those misfortune individuals caught up in it. Back to Poole.
This is a long article about the Fanjuls who own all the sugar land from here up to Clewiston as well as the coop sugar refinery in South Bay. If you read the article, you will find laid out some of the injustices their immigrant workers have faced.
If you move to page 5 of the article, you will find a name that we now know well. It's that of Sam Poole.
Anybody privy to the behind the scenes manipulations by Debbie Wasserman Schultz in trying to co-opt opposition to the prison can now see that this is all by the playbook and that Poole is expert at this. Who will suffer this time? Just like with the sugar barons, immigrants, residents and the environment suffer.

To persuade Durando, the Fanjuls sent an impressive three-man team -- the trio's prestige further proof of the Fanjuls' ability to enlist high-powered talent in their cause. On her right sat Samuel E. Poole III, a former executive director of the South Florida Water Management District, who recently joined the Fanjuls.
...So, folks fighting this prison, Sam Poole is THE GUY who is used to ameliorate opposition to controversial people and projects MAINLY exploiting immigrants and the environment.
The Fanjul team feared defeat. "Well, why wait?" Poole asked. "This is the public-private partnership we need to use as the right model and duplicate it elsewhere."
...
That's what essentially ended the meeting. The Fanjul folks changed the subject. A promise, especially on paper, was apparently too much to ask. Cantens suggested maybe Durando could set up another meeting, next time bringing other environmentalists. "We'll have it at your place," Poole added.
...
Outside the commission chambers, environmentalist turned Fanjul lawyer Sam Poole stood by himself. He leaned against a wall watching the meeting on a television set. He promised that the Fanjuls would be back. He promised they would win over more environmentalists. "We intend to seek a dialogue on what should happen on this site.

Wasserman Schultz Spanks Mayor Jeff Nelson

Even though Debbie Wasserman Schultz is COMPLICIT in keeping opposition to HER Immigrant Prison away from the powers that be, she still took time to SPANK Southwest Ranches Mayor Jeff Nelson for his STUNNING attempt to push this prison through under the cover of darkness.
